He tries to corrupt him and use him for profit.

The Last Night Fagin spends his last night in a condemned cell, tormented by fear and madness. Oliver and Mr. Brownlow visit him. Execution Fagin is hanged. His death marks the end of the criminal enterprise. Justice is served.
